Santiago Torres

Leading Role

Personality Type:  ENTJ

Age: early 20’s

Ethnicity: Cuban

Position: EVP – Business Affairs

Background: Santiago’s parents were both teachers in Cuba before the conclusion of the revolution in 1959.  After losing several family members branded as counter-revolutionaries (Santiago’s uncle was executed by Che Guevera), the Torres family did their best to survive and raise their children under communist rule.

This proved exceedingly difficult.  And by the late 1970’s simple things like bread and rice became hard to acquire.  But in 1980 Fidel agreed to let anyone go to America who wanted to, and so Santiago along with 15 members of his family found themselves on an overcrowded boat departing from Mariel harbor headed to Franklin City.

Life in Franklin City was difficult, but they were free and ended up settling in one of Northeast Franklin’s most vibrant neighborhoods; diverse with immigrants and refugees from all over the world.  Santiago was never the most ardent student, and since he was 16 and could work his parents were in no rush for him to go.  After working in a kitchen, then at a shoe store, Santiago was introduced to some people who wanted him to liaison a deal between some Dominicans in his current neighborhood and some Cubans who were also part of the exodus.

Santiago was successful to helping smooth over the deal, and made more money in a few hours than he had all year.  He had a new job.  Unfortunately it wasn’t long into his new profession before Santiago was arrested, but because it was his first offense, he was given probation.  As part of the conditions of his release he had to find legal employment and it was then that he remembered one of his customers offered him a job at a music store down by Franklin City University.
