Although Jonas’ mother shares a father with his uncle Richie, she never came close to following the same path as her older brother. Therefore Jonas did not grow up in the suburbs like his cousin, but a working class neighborhood with his mother Valerie Santino, a registered nurse, and Bob Connoly, a corporate limo driver.
In school Jonas would be considered extremely average. Not athletic enough for sports, nor particularly suited for purely academic pursuits, Jonas spent a majority of his HS years with a small group of friends listening to LP’s, smoking joints, and having lucid dreams.
Those dreams took different forms. They first manifested themselves into a psychedelic rock band he started with his friends called ‘LS Delight’. But often their writing sessions became bogged down with meaningless conversations about the colors of sound and how long their hair should grow. They failed to record a song.
Although Jonas’ parents found him to be quite aimless, the starting of a band began an entrepreneurial time in Jonas’ life. They would throw parties, small concerts, even set up summer moving screenings, and had a real knack for always at least breaking even and often doing quite well.
Once it became clear that college was not likely on the cards, he took a job at a local record shop, and kept producing small events on the side. After a few years he was offered a managerial position at the record store, and his ambitions began to grow wildly.
